Best Degree for cardiac care nurse career
Cardiac care nurses, also called cardiovascular nurses, should generally have a four-year bachelor of science in nursing degree. Although an RN can definitely help get you an entry level nursing job, with a bachelors degree in nursing, you are more likely to get a higher paying job in the field. A cardiac/vascular nurse certification exam is available to students you have at least 2000 hours of clinical practice. You may also consider getting a Masters of Science in nursing to become a cardiovascular clinical nurse specialist. This includes at least two years of graduate school beyond your nursing bachelor’s degree.
Where to Get a Cardiac Care Nursing Degree
An Intensivist Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP) program is available through Vanderbilt University’s School of Nursing. The program prepares students for the AG–ACNP certification exam and teaches students fundamental of shock teams, cardiovascular intensive care unit, surgical intensive care unit, and much more. This program properly prepares students to work with critical care physicians giving them a broad range of knowledge and sophisticated critical care simulation.
Duke University also offers nurse practitioner primary care programs with an emphasis in cardiology. The program offered at Duke offers a Master of Science in Nursing degree as well as a post-master’s certificate. Online or on-campus options are available.
